Future orientation is not merely an anticipatory competence, but a culturally and socially constructed value orientation framework that structures an individual's thinking, decisions, and actions regarding the future. Our research is based on the assumption that disadvantaged students often have a narrow time horizon when thinking about the future, and that there are significant social differences in how they interpret future opportunities. PISA data and our previous research confirm that Hungarian students' future planning skills are particularly limited among those with low socioeconomic status.
The pedagogical development of future orientation is underrepresented in domestic and international educational research, especially in the context of social mobility and value transmission. The aim of our research is to develop a complex development program that supports the development of future-conscious thinking with the involvement of students, parents, and teachers. The impact of the program will be assessed using quasi-experimental methods, and the results will be disseminated at international and domestic scientific forums and made available as a development package that can be integrated into educational practice.
